The plan has been favorably reviewed in both Volusia and Brevard Counties. On December 15, 2009 the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners unanimously approved adoption of the Farmton Plan. On October 15, 2009, the Volusia County Council gave preliminary approval of the Farmton Plan and made key decisions at a special meeting on January 28, 2010 which has improved the plan. The Florida Department of Community Affairs is currently reviewing the plan. The Farmton Plan covers the 59,000-acre tree farm located in southeast Volusia and northern Brevard County. The property has been under single ownership of Miami Corporation for more than eighty years. The plan establishes a long range vision for conservation and economic development.
